Fractionated Coconut Oil
This is a great oil to provide a light base to work from when making your own lotion. It is very economical and also has excellent absorption.
Fractionated Coconut Oil is a “fraction” of solid coconut oil, meaning that it contains only the liquid portion, so it does not go solid, but remains a stable liquid in any of your formulations.
Fractionated Coconut Oil is an extremely versatile oil.
It’s light texture, clear colour and has no scent, makes it very receptive to any oil soluble additives you may want to use, it’s like working with a blank canvas :0).
Soapmaking Tidbits:This oil isn’t commonly used for soapmaking, but I very seldom have made a lotion without it because it increases absorption rate and gives a very pleasant, soft feel.
My other favourite lotion oils are Jojoba and Kukui Nut Oil. If I want to add a bit more glide or heaviness to it, I like to use a Nut Oil.
INCI NAME: Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride
This oil is favoured by massage therapists due to these qualities, as well as the fact that it is extremely stable.
It holds scent well, it is often used as a base oil to dilute some of the finer essential oils. Another oil that is commonly used for this is Jojoba.
This oil is often used as an oil spray (not recommended to spray on clothing although it is one of the more forgiving oils), lip balms and is great in scrubs due to it’s stable but absorbant nature.
A wonderful vegetable oil substitute for baby oil.
