Of course we already know that chemicals aren’t good to have building up in our bodies (and the earth, which as Dr. Oz said, we do need a place to live in our old age), nice to see Oprah is on the same page.

I would like to invite any of you who make green cleaning products to post your website in the comments section here.

I will be posting a link from my Queen of KAOS at home blog here as well. Anything we can do to promote green and clean is good to me :0)

I will have more tomorrow on what I use. Right now I am posting on my laptop with my daughter and her friend on my computer blasting their music - KC and the Sunshine Band - Get Down Tonight - and I’m having problems typing because I can’t stop bouncing on my exercise ball/chair :0)

One of the reasons that I decided to operate Skincare Naturals is because of the opportunity to promote a true alternative in skin care that is not only healthy, but better for the environment… environment has been a main concern of mine since I was a child (I was running around turning off lights since I can remember :0)

I have been a monthly contributor to Greenpeace.org almost as long as I can remember as well. (right now you can sign up at that link for a free 7 week weekly email with instructions how to campaign effectively for energy efficiency. “How many people… to change a lightbulb?” Try changing the law!)

And my concern has become much more so in the past years, since I’ve had my own family and see how common sense demands that the effort must be made.

The bottom line is that as world population and industrialization increases, the planet will continue to become overburdened - there is no way of avoiding it taking the path we are on right now - without planning and intelligent use of our resources - both natural and intellectual (in other words, there are just too many plain stupid things being accepted as the norm all around us because smart people are allowed - by us - to do stupid things).

I have long thought that any business should be held accountable for their environmental footprint, although not nearly enough has been done in this direction, I am delighted to see a move in this direction, more so as time goes by.

I ran across this article on the topic of the move towards environmentally friendly business trends that you may find of interest.

It looks quite interesting but the page had a link for greening schools and cities, so I had to check it out. It has a large bunch of resources.

Global Green.org

It occured to me that you may want to send this link in your newsletter if you have a natural body care business, many people who buy natural products are interested in the environment. There are many reasons to use natural skin care products, health and environment are high on the list.

And if you make or use natural skin care for yourself, you can go directly from here :0)

Note: It has a lot of good information for anyone, anywhere, but it is geared with specific programs for the US. Any similar Canadian sites out there?

I just turned on the radio to hear the weather and Muskoka has got a smog warning already.

This warning just started turning up on the radio a few years ago, smog warnings in Muskoka where unheard of less than 5 years ago.

I expected some kind of fuss, but it seemed to be a new thing that passed relatively unnoticed.

The warnings started coming on hot, muggy days in the height of summer, when typically the warnings are worse for everyone.

Now it appears that they are here in May on a hot but not terribly intense or muggy day (relatively speaking)

With all this talk about global warming, is it man made, is it even an issue, etc etc, I don’t think that anyone can argue that the state of our earth is getting worse. It’s common sense and obvious.

The cause? Pollution of course. But what is the cause of pollution?

It’s apathy. On a grand scale.

Are most people in the “developed nations” - the prime offenders doing their best to cut down on pollution of all kinds? At both a personal and government level.

Not by a long shot.

I’m guilty myself. I am aware and try, but I’m sure that there is more that I can be doing.

That is the first step, being aware. We are so busy in our little bubbles (pardon the pun :0) that it just seems like too much work sometimes to make the environmental choice.

What can you do today? (want an idea? continue making your own natural skin care. Biodegradable ingredients are a much better alternative to synthetics in skin care products which all make their way into the waterways and air as well. It’s almost scary to think about how many synthetics are being washed down the shower drains every day, synthetics that will be with us for a very long time. I am constantly reminded of David and Goliath, it seems so hopeless some days. But take heart. David knocked down the giant :0)

Please post your suggestions and any organizations or resources in the comments section. I would like to put a page together.

The other day I was at the grocery store and finally decided to bite the bullet and buy some of those green bins that are for sale to put my groceries in.

I should have done it sooner!

They where packed faster, unloaded faster, easier to carry - they have carrying handles - and best of all - no plastic shopping bags! They are my pet peeve for the environment.

When I shop in our town, I get paper bags, if you don’t have bins, ask about them. Many stores have them but won’t offer them unless you ask.

I use the paper bags to wrap the boxes that need it when I ship my orders. So they are always welcome.

Next time you are out shopping, remember to bring your own bags or get some bins, they are worth every penny (I use them for my laundry too!)
