Over the years I’ve found that having the best looking and healthiest skin is a two part process.

PART ONE- Taking care of your skin from the inside by eating healthy foods.

I have found that the more raw foods I eat the better my skin looks. Greens -- raw are better but some cooked are good too, seem to pack the biggest punch.

QUICK TIPS TO GET MORE GREENS AND RAW FOOD IN YOUR DIET

I get a powerhouse of raw skin care from green smoothies. My skin looks best when I have at least one a day. You can take any smoothie recipe and just add raw spinach or mixed greens. Best option? Grow it yourself. It’s quite easy. I will have more on that coming up.

I also regularly have eggs cooked with baby spinach or greens on the side as well as salsa. If it sounds a little different, try it. I’m hooked! Just cook them beside your eggs for a few minutes so that they are soft but not mushy. I usually add some water to lightly steam my eggs as well as the veggies -- you can also use sliced tomatoes, peas and herbs from your garden. You can add a bit of greens to almost anything and hardly notice if you slice them into small pieces.

A NOTE ABOUT COFFEE: Healthy diet for skin care is also much about what you don’t eat. One of the biggest offenders? Coffee. I have been drinking far too much lately myself and I can see it. If you can cut it out or even reduce it, you will notice a difference (in your anxiety and stress level as well, which is a big part of it.) Btw, alcohol is a close second. If you are using both, see what you can do and watch your skin take on a clear glow from the inside.

PART TWO- Taking care of your skin from the outside using natural ingredients that don’t contain harsh synthetics -- in my experience they seem to agggravate the skin -- bottom line my theory is that anything that goes onto and into the skin that is not biodegradable is likely going to aggrevate/irritate on some level. That’s not science, it’s my own suspicion :0) The implications go far beyond beauty but that is another story for a different day!

This is a video I did last winter. Odd for an article about healthy summer time skin care but it has a lot of timeless information in it, so what the heck! Maybe it will cool you down :0)

www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVkLFAwYH80

For more information on great skin care nutrition, here is an article from the blog

Here is an interesting idea -- adding aloe to your smoothies. I haven’t tried it but it could be a great idea!

http://www.aloeplant.info/springing-into-a-smoothie-craze/

Next up is a closer look at simple summer skin care that you can use to take care of your skin from the outside.

Meantime, grab a green smoothie -- or two!

And don’t forget to use save a bit a few of the berries to mash up and put in your face mask! (remember to always do a patch test first to test for sensitivities, especially if you have sensitive skin.)

Since we are at the start of a fresh new year, it’s a fantastic time to set a few new habits to great skin from the inside out.

I came across this article that I thought was really interesting. It has good info on some nutritional points that may not be exactly common knowledge, but I also like the information on how some of the organs in your body helps to maintain and build nice skin – and how we can support those organs.

GOING GREEN FOR HEALTHY SKIN

I’ve noticed myself since making my diet a bigger priority that my skin has improved. My biggest discovery has been green smoothies.

I went on a raw/green smoothie challenge for a week once when my daughter was away. When she came back she said my skin looked like water. I didn’t even ask!. That sold me – my largest skin care problems are large pores and a ruddy complexion.

These days I find that if my skin is starting to look ‘muddy’ I get back on my green smoothie routine (at least one good one a day) and within days I see an improvement.

REAL FOOD FOR HEALTHY SKIN

My current challenge is to spend more time in the kitchen making ‘real food’ and to cut the crap out of the cupboards (again). (if you want more info on that or if you’d like to get to know me better, you can check out my ‘at home’ blog and my health journey blog where I will have more indepth info about these things – My Home Blog and Healthy Habits Blog.

DR. MERCOLA ON HEALTHY SKIN CARE NUTRITION

Here’s the link to the article if you’d like to have a look. You need to scroll down a bit to get Dr. Mercola’s comments and the additional information.

Healthy Skin Care Nutrition

While there are plenty of things that you can do to on the outside, getting in the habit to care for your skin and to keep it healthy from the inside is always a good idea – and a great place to start when brainstorming your next natural skin care creation.

I am not recommending the products in particular, I know nothing about them, but I think that the information in the article is great if you workout or if you sell your own products you may be able to put an all natural ‘after exercise’ line together.

I’d like to work on this myself as I’ve been a member at Club Fit Yummy Mummy for 2 years now (we’re doing a preholiday challenge right now to be prepared for the fun over the holidays) and I love it. I find it to be quick, effective and the support there is amazing.

I usually have my shower before my workout to energize me, warm up my muscles and to open my pores. Then I have a quick shower after to rinse off all of the sweat and I have often thought how skin is in prime condition after a workout for good, natural skin care since it’s warm and the pores are clean and open (for excellent absorption of what ever we use – on the flip side – it’s also prime time for absorbing toxins into our systems through our skin through skin care that contains who know what.

So, here’s the article, I’d love to hear if you have any suggestions or if you have a skin care routine that you use after you exercise.
