Valentines Day Face Mask and Scrub Recipe
This Rose Geranium face scrub/mask is a great way to give your face a little Valentine’s Day glow – any day!
What You Need…
1/3 cup goat milk powder
1/4 cup baking soda
2 tsp cellulose gum
2 tsp oryza silk
1 tsp pink clay
1 tsp organic dried rosehip powder
10-30 Drops Egyptian Rose Geranium Essential Oil (depending on how strong you like the scent and if you are using it in the bath as well)
To Mix Up It Up
Measure 1 tsp of the Valentines Day Face Mask/Scrub powder into a small mixing bowl.
Add 1 teaspoon floral water or other wetting agent (herbal tea, fresh fruit juice, water, yogurt will work)
A few drops Tamarand Seed Extract or Glycerin (optional).
Let sit 2-3 minutes to thicken up.
To Apply to Face and Neck Area
Wet a clean face cloth under warm tap water.
Apply to your face and neck area. (I like to lay it over my face then gently cleanse my face with it as it cools.)
Do this a few times if you like.
NOTE: If your skin is sensitive you may want to splash warm water on your face and skip the prewash with the cloth or do it gently only once.
Apply the face mask mix to your damp face.
Let it sit 5-10 minutes.
You will feel it tighten as it dries so be ready to relax and be silent – don’t eat, talk etc while it is on your face.
When you are ready to rinse, get your face cloth and wet it again, repeat the process you did with it pre-mask gently scrubbing the mask/scrub mix off of your face.
When I did this mask for the first time I was amazed at how tight and polished my face looked.
I have a problem with large pores and bags under my eyes, especially under one in particular (just lucky I guess!) but when I used this mask I saw a noticable improvement. I also was feeling a little under the weather and my skin was showing it, but it looked better than usual when I was finished so I found it to be a great improvement and really lifted my spirits.
Guess I will be doing this a lot more often in the mornings before I go to work, even if I just do a quick one under my eyes while I drink my morning tea. I am going to be doing a lot more experimentation with this!
A FEW TWEAKS
I created this mix especially to double as a Valentines Day Bath soak as well so there are a few things that you may want to do differently to make it a little more gentle for your face if you find it to be at all irritating. I did find a little stinging at first so I was afraid that it was going to be a problem but it stopped after the first minute or so and it was all good after that.
1. Omit or decrease the baking soda. It helps to give such a dramatic tightening effect but it can be a little drying and may irritate sensitive skin.
2. Add more Organic Rosehip Powder – This is one of my favourite scrub ingredients. It is uber gentle but does a nice job of taking a layer of dead skin off. It is a slight orange colour so it may darken the final colour of your mask.
3. Add some oil when you wet the powder. Fractionated Coconut Oil works wonderfully if your skin is a little oily as it is what I like to call a drying or tightening oil but you will still get the moisturizing and softening effect. Or use Organic Jojoba a great all around skin care oil that is great to use on acne or one of my favourite facial care oils – Kukui Nut Oil (Kukui is light and absorbs very nicely. If you have dry skin, try Perilla Seed, Hazelnut or Macadamia Nut Oil.)
Play around a little to see what suits you or use it as is both in the Bath or as a Face Mask/Scrub.
